THE TOP CLASS WEDNESDAY UPDATE WILL LOOK AFTER YOU

Hello hello, me again after a week’s break from Updating at a keyboard in favour of Updating anyone who cared to drop by at HomeGame 2 last week. Thanks to everyone who came along – just under 170 in the room and nearly 300 online – and I hope you had a nice time. I […]

THE TOP CLASS WEDNESDAY UPDATE IS BURYING ITS HEAD IN SWEET, SWEET DATA

Hi folks, it’s yours truly, Rich Mayor at the TCWU helm this week, which means it’s time to have a little look at how last quarter went and, hopefully, a brief distraction from just HOW DAMN HOT it is. We’re tantalisingly close to being able to share what’s happened on an individual basis at platforms […]

Hello Fundment!

During the 2010s, several commentators were fond of sayings things like ‘within five years, there will only be four or five adviser platforms’. Their fantasy was that the behemoths would hoover up the smaller, generally start-up-based, platforms, thus preserving the traditional establishment’s grip on the UK retail investment market and enjoying a vertical integration-based nirvana. […]

THE TOP CLASS WEDNESDAY UPDATE IS GOING BACK TO SCHOOL

Welcome to another Wednesday update. Mark is on holiday again, so for probably the final week I’m in charge. Last time he was off Edinburgh was battered by a huge electrical storm. This week we’ve all enjoyed Storm Francis. The Gods are clearly angered by his absence, so we won’t be letting that happen again. […]

THE TOP CLASS WEDNESDAY UPDATE ALWAYS STATES ITS VALUE

It is a truth universally acknowledged that I know absolutely hee-haw about football. Not only don’t I know anything about it, such is my fear of hypermasculine conversations about it that I’ve been known to offer to go to the bar when the subject comes up. Which is odd, as the game I really follow […]

SECCL TAKES UP RESIDENCE IN OCTOPUS’S GARDEN; SHADE STATUS UNCLEAR

A few quick thoughts on the announcement from Octopus today that it will acquire Seccl for £10m subject to regulatory approval. Normally I’d do these in the Wednesday Update, but it’s Thursday today and it’s only just been announced. Why are people so inconsiderate? Anyway, Seccl is a really interesting business, run by Hugo Thorman […]

The Impact of Poor Service

We provided the research for a report, in conjunction with Parmenion, which reveals how far short of expectations many adviser platforms are falling. The research found that over the last 12 months, 88% of advisers needed to apologise to at least one of their clients on behalf of a platform, and that poor service delivery from platforms impacts 91% of advisers every day.

Answering the Call

Service means a lot of things to a lot of different people. It’s so subjective it can be hard to put your finger on. This paper aims to challenge the status quo and inertia that’s built up in the sector for many years.
