if you haven’t read our main recruitment page about what it’s like to work at the lang cat then do that first. It’s OK, we’ll wait.

Platform Analyser, our regtech system, is the lang cat’s newest product and is really starting to find its feet. We have big plans to develop it in lots of directions, and we need some help from someone who understands both the adviser market and the product development lifecycle.

In this role you’ll work predominantly with the Platform Analyser team and our software partners to specify, test and refine new developments to Analyser. We work very closely with Bad Dinosaur, our software partner, so you’ll need to build a strong relationship with them very quickly.

You’ll work alongside Terry Huddart, our proposition director, and others to work out what developments – big and small – we should be putting through Analyser in the short, medium, and long terms. You’ll talk to users regularly, as well as colleagues in the lang cat to get a sense of what will genuinely help our adviser and platform users do better business. You’ll document requirements and help develop testing packs.

You’ll also develop good relationships with the platforms and others who supply data to us; our products are nothing without them. Ensuring they understand what they have to do and when, and solving problems they may have, is critical to our success.

Along with others, you’ll also respond to adviser user queries and help users get used to Analyser; there’s no better way to get a real insight into what matters most to those who pay money to use our kit.

You’ll also make sure your knowledge of the adviser technology market is up-to-date and help us understand how to meet the needs of advisers in the future.

Although you’ll have to manage clients, suppliers and yourself, you won’t have any line management responsibilities in this role.

Although you don’t need to be from a platform or adviser technology background, you’ll find this role very difficult if you’re starting from a base of no knowledge of the long-term savings and investment industry. So some experience in either fintech, platforms, investment, advisertech or even lifeco world would be very handy indeed.

You’ll be documenting requirements and will need to be able to demonstrate that you can do that in a way that works for both the lang cat and our software developers. You won’t need to know how to code, but an understanding of how developers interpret business requirements will stand you in good stead.

You’ll have to be comfortable speaking to lots of different people – from colleagues inside the lang cat, to adviser users, to platforms who supply data and to our developers. So a good way with people and a willingness to just pick up the phone is essential.

At any given moment you could have four or five different pieces of work on your desk, so an ability to organise yourself, prioritise accordingly and meet your deadlines is a must.

The most important characteristic you’ll need, though, is a desire to get stuck in and a willingness to take a brief and have at it.

We have a very flat structure at the lang cat. That means we’ve got an open mind about what level of seniority you may have achieved in your last roles. You might have ‘specialist’ in your title, or ‘manager’, or whatever. If you think you’re a good fit, then you’re someone we want to hear from.

This is a full-time role based at the lang cat’s beautiful, airy offices in Leith, Edinburgh. The nature of the role means that we really do want you to be in Edinburgh – but if you don’t want to be in the office five days a week, we can handle that. In fact, if you love the look of the role but can’t do five days a week, still get in touch. We’re open to alternatives.

This is a 12-month contract initially with a one-month notice period on both sides. We’ll review that regularly and may be open to making it permanent in due course. Salary will depend on experience.

There’s a pension scheme (8% unconditional), a bonus scheme, life cover and you can have a holiday sometimes if you must.

You get access to the office Sonos on the understanding that ritual humiliation of your music taste will be guaranteed. The coffee is decent and plentiful. Sometimes there are biscuits.

If that sounds like something that doesn’t frighten the hell out of you, then get in touch

And that’s it. Hope to hear from you soon. Especially you
